Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha’s Wedding
Bollywood actor-producer Dia Mirza married producer Sahil Sangha in an extravagant ceremony in New Delhi on October 18
Dia Mirza is no flower child but she chose flowers as the theme for her wedding to filmmaker Sahil Sangha. The Bollywood couple got married at a farmhouse in Ghitorni in New Delhi on Saturday, in the presence of family and a few close friends.
For their sangeet, a day earlier, the place was done up with sweet-smelling rajnigandha. The next day, when the nuptials took place, the same farmhouse was bedecked in lilies and orchids as peach-and-white furnishings, chandeliers, crystals and candles added to the regalia.
Dia, who has been in a relationship with Sahil for over four years, was every inch the resplendent bride, beaming away in a beige-and-green designer sharara. The groom, equally ecstatic, looked dapper in a white sherwani. Sahil arrived in a horse-drawn carriage and his baaraatis spent a good one hour dancing to band-baaja at the farm entrance. The couple solemnised their wedding by Arya Samaj rites. We hear, while the wedding vows were being read out and the priest said, "Jald putra ho", Dia interrupted him and said, "Putri ho."
Being foodies themselves, the two made sure that the wedding spread was the best. Delicious kebabs and assorted starters were served during the ceremony. The menu for the reception that followed was a lip-smacking mix of specialities from Hyderabad, Lucknow, Avadh and Coastal India with a huge spread of Bengali desserts. Rajkumar Hirani, Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi, Sushmita Sen, Roshan Seth, Nikhil Advani, Aditi Rao Hydari, Pallavi Sharda and Cyrus Sahukar attended the wedding.
Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha were married on 18 October, 2014 in New Delhi.
Dia Mirza and Sahil Singh Sangha’s wedding was as per Arya Samaj marriage customs. As with traditional Punjabi/Sikh weddings, Sahil arrived at the wedding “Mandap” on a horse. His “Baraat” danced for an hour at the marriage venue.
For her wedding, Dia Mirza’s wore a traditional Mughal bridal trousseau which was reminiscent of a bride from Hyderabad. Ritu Kumar designed Dia Mirza’s bridal dress, which consisted of a “Kurta”, two “Dupattas” and a “Farsi Pajama”. Dia’s golden Kurta had traditional “Zardozi” around the neck; her pyjama was partly made of golden silk and partly of green and turq silk. Diya wore an embroidered Dupatta and a second emerald green Dupatta.
Bridal jewelry worn by Diya Mirza on her wedding included Maang Tikka, Jhumar, Nath (nose ring), Jhumki (earrings), red and white Chudas (marriage bangles worn by newlywed brides), Bangles, Kaleeras, Chokar around the neck and necklace.
Sahil Sangha’s Wedding clothes were designed by designer Raghavendra Rathore, who specializes in marriage outfits for men. At his wedding, Sahil wore a cream/ off-white silk linen “Achkan” with an off-white Safa. On his Pagdi (Turban) Sahil wore a Kalgi (Turban jewel), which is traditionally worn by Sikh grooms.
Guest list at Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha’s marriage included family and close friends. Guests from the film industry included Rajkumar Hirani, Lara Dutta, Mahesh Bhupathi, Neha Dupia, Sushmita Sen, Roshan Seth, Nikhil Advani, Aditi Rao Hydari, Cyrus Sahukar, Pallavi Sharda and others.
Former beauty queen Dia Mirza is finally Mrs Sahil Sangha! She married her long time beau and business partner last night in a lavish ceremony at a farmhouse in Ghittorni, New Delhi.
The 32 year old actress had got engaged to filmmaker Sahil Sangha in New York earlier this year.
“I am very happy. It was a beautiful Arya Samaj ceremony. The vows were explained to us. It was wonderful because it was good to be conscious of what you are going through and what are the vows you are exchanging. It was a dream wedding,” Dia said post her wedding while posing for the shutterbugs outside the venue.
The former Miss Asia Pacific wore a Ritu Kumar beige and green ensemble (sharara), while Sahil sported a Raghavendra Rathore creation – an off white silk linen brocade ‘achkan’. The couple opted for an intimate Arya Samaj wedding.
“Since, I am not getting married in Hyderabad and being a Hyderabadi I chose this outfit to add some Hyderabadi flavour to my wedding. I feel like a typical Hyderabadi bride,” she said.
The wedding ceremonies were attended by family and close friends. Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta with husband Mahesh Bhupati, Rajkumar Hirani, Zayed Khan, Sophie Choudry and Cyrus Sahukar are few of the duo’s friends from the industry who graced the occasion. “Our friends and family worked really hard to make this a memorable day for Diya and me. We are very happy and grateful for everyone who bestowed so much love on us,” said Sahil. Reportedly, it was Dia’s ‘Munnabhai’ co-star Boman Irani who performed the ‘kanyadaan’ ritual for the wedding and gave Dia away.
